I want to connect my front panel to the X-Fi's front panel pins. The X-Fi is stated as having an 'Intel HD Audio Compatible Front Panel Header (2x5pin)'. This looks the same as my motherboard's AC97 header but I know from the diagrams I've seen the pins are different. If your Audio Manager looks like mine, there is a gear in the top right next to the close and minimize window buttons. I clicked the gear and then changed the 'Connector Settings' from 'HD Audio Front Panel' to 'AC97 Front Panel.'

All sound good too when im plugged directly on motherboard whatever if im on Hd Audio/AC97. My question is, what is wrong? Why i cant use my front panel jack with Hd audio? I want to fix that because my sound card is SupremeFx alc1220 and the 600 ohms amp only work on front panel jack. And im using Dt-990 Pro 250 ohms headphone so i feel a good.
Your particular front panel looks to me like it is primerally designed for HD audio motherboards but with a hack to give limited support for AC97 boards. There are loops of wire on the AC97 connectors which will make the rear output work but it won't be switched by the front panel connectors like it would be with a proper AC97 front panel.

I recently bought a lot of computer cases and most were AC97 Front Panel audio. While they work with HD Audio motherboards when you disable front panel detection, the rear speakers cannot mute when you plug headphones into the front panel so you end up with audio coming from the headphones and rear speakers. Does anyone know of a cheap mod case mod to allow for muting of the rear speakers when you plug in headphones into the front panel AC97 audio jack? I found this http://www.moddiy.com/products/USB{47}AC97{47}HD%2dAudio-Motherboard-Internal-Front-Panel-Cable.html which claims to support HD Audio but it only has one 'audio plug' and every case I've ever dealt with that had AC97 or HD Audio support had both cables (AC97 and HD Audio) cable. It'd be awesome if it was HD Audio as it looks identical to the cases front panel card except it has two usb (the cases only have one usb port so that's not an issue). I messaged the company but have not gotten a response yet so I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience in doing anything like this before I buy one for testing purposes. Thanks.
